Fairfax County Transportation for Older Adults , a comprehensive site offering information about disability transportation (mostly for medical appointments), discount transportation options, and a Volunteer-Rides to Medical Appointments, which includes Loudoun County residents. There is also a link to Fairfax County authorized cab services.
Fairfax County TOPS–-Transportation Options, Programs and Services provides subsidized transportation options for residents of Fairfax County, City of Falls Church, and City of Fairfax. There are age and income eligibility requirements.
NV Rides (a voluntary organization) coordinates a network of local partner organizations, including volunteer drivers, to help seniors with their transportation needs.
Shepherds Center of Northern Virginia (SCNOVA), a non-profit organization, has provided transportation assistance for seniors ages 50 and up since 1998. They offer both medical transportation and companion transportation, a service that extends to social meetings and educational functions (4 days notice required for both).
Shepherds Center Fairfax/Burke appears to be the same non-profit as above, offering transportation services for adults 50 years old and older in the Fairfax-Burke and South County communities.
Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority offers a service, MetroAccess Paratransit, a shared door-to-door paratransit service for older adults and those persons with a disability that prevents them from using bus or rail. You need to enroll first. Washington-Metro also offers The Flexible Alternative, which allows MetroAccess to move someone to a local Abilities-Ride provider at a discounted fare (which per their website is currently free). You need to join this program as well. Lots of information at the above links.
Reston Community Center Rides (RCC RIDES) is a free door-to-door transportation service for those age 50 or older who are no longer comfortable driving or are unable to do so. It provides volunteer drivers to take you to medical and dental appointments, personal care, banking, and more. The service covers Reston residents in a certain tax district, but currently has no limitations on driving distance. You must complete an application before using the service and one week’s ride notice required.
Reston Useful Services Exchange (USE), a community time bank program for people living in Reston, Herndon, and nearby areas. There is a small membership fee; transportation is listed as one of the services.
ElderLink, a partnership between Inova Health System and Fairfax Area Agency on Aging, while not driver-specific, offers services which may be of interest.
