April 1 Meeting Announcement

Welcome spring! 

Our next meeting is Wednesday April 11:00 – 2:30  PM via ZOOM. 

We will have a guest speaker for the first half of the meeting and an open discussion for the remaining time. Topic is open—whatever is on your mind that you want to talk about.

Our guest speaker, Occupational Therapist Surabhi (Chikki) Rao, OTR/L, will talk about Low Vision Issues Affecting People with Parkinson’s. She will discuss (1) the impact of Parkinson’s on visual processing and functional performance, and their effects on activities of daily living. (2) Identifying and testing for common visual deficits. (3) The role of occupational therapy in assessment and intervention. (4) Visual retraining, compensatory strategies, and environment modifications that can help. BRING your Questions!

BIO: Surabhi (Chikki) Rao is a Registered and Licensed Occupational Therapist (OTR/L) at UVA Prince William Hospital Center in Manassas, Virginia. She has worked there as an occupational therapist (OT) since 2010. She specializes in neuro rehabilitation specific to stroke and Parkinson’s, working with her patients to address dysfunctions or abnormalities. These can include but are not limited to weakness in the limbs, visual impairment, and cognitive irregularity. 

We ask that everyone keep their camera on during the meeting so we can see each other, like we would if we were in the same room together. 

ZOOM sign-on problems: If you experience any sign-on problems, let us know what they were so we can troubleshoot with tech support (AKA tech-savvy husband). Also be sure you have the latest version/update of ZOOM installed before signing on to our meeting.
