What a beautiful fall season we are having here in Northern Virginia! The crisp air, clear skies, and changing foliage provide the perfect opportunity for an outdoor walk or hike. We all know that exercise is essential for people with Parkinson’s, not only because it helps us stay flexible, strong, and physically fit, but because as study-after-study indicates, exercise can slow down the disease’s progression. What better motivation do we need!
We also know how difficult exercise can feel when we’re having a bad Parkinson’s day. When we are tired or stressed, experiencing lots of dyskinesia or off-times, or just not feeling good. When even the thought of putting on our sneakers to walk outside or driving to Fair Oaks for one of our favorite exercises classes seems like too much. How do we stay disciplined when motivation meets up with day-to-day reality?
We are going to talk about self-commitment, self-discipline, self-motivation, and more at our next Just-Us Share Time! meeting.
- Date: Wednesday, November 2
- Time: 1:00-2:30 pm
- Location: Reston
- Topic: Self-Commitment, Self-Discipline, and Self-Motivation; Group Sharing
Some questions to think about: Do you have an exercise plan and/or exercise regularly? Why or why not? What strategies work for you to maintain exercise in your life? How do you discipline yourself and stay motivated? How do you deal with difficulties when they come up? How do you get back on track after you’ve fallen off?
As our meeting coordinator says, One thing I love about our group is that we all help one another by encouraging each other. We find ways to motivate everyone when we share stories from our own lives. Today, we want to do this!
Please bring a mask with you to wear or not wear as you feel comfortable. For everyone’s safety, we ask that you not attend if you haven’t been vaccinated and boostered, are feeling ill, or have been exposed to anyone who is ill.
By agreement with our sponsoring organization, we do not publicly post our meeting place.
Dates and topics for meetings through June can be found here
Hoping to attend today’s in person meeting at 1 o’clock.
