September Meeting Announcement

I am not sure where summer has gone, but here it is August 13th and before we know it, our September meeting date will be here. A number of women have contacted us over the summer months about our group and expressed interest in attending our meetings.  We look forward to meeting you and extend a warm virtual welcome.

There is a wealth of information that has been accumulated over the years on this website. Whether you are a new attendee or a long-time member, I encourage you to read through some of the posts. Of interest if you’re new, but a good reminder to all of us,  can be found at What We Are and What We Are Not.  Also last month’s post Blame It On Parkinson’s includes a brief overview of the group’s history.

Our September meeting information:IMG_1441
          Date: Wednesday September 4
          Time: 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
          Guest Speaker: Dr. Drew Falconer

Feel free to arrive 10-15 minutes before 1.00 p.m.

Dr. Falconer has visited our group numerous times and is always an interesting and informative speaker. A board certified Neurologist and Movement Disorder Specialist, he is the Co-Director and Co-Founder of the INOVA Movement Disorders Program, along with Dr. Sean Rogers (our guest speaker this past April). In addition to addressing our concerns and answering our questions, Dr. Falconer will be accompanied by a representative from a pharmaceutical company to talk about a newly released device designed to help during off times.

Dr. Falconer is board certified in neurology and is a fellowship-trained movement disorders specialist. He joined Inova Medical Group in 2015 with the launch of the Inova Movement Disorders Program and specializes in advanced care of patients with Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, dystonia, Huntington’s disease, tic disorders and other movement disorders. He is uniquely qualified in the areas of deep brain stimulation (DBS) and botulinum toxin injections.

Dr. Falconer serves as assistance professor at the VCU School of Medicine INOVA Campus.  He became interested in neurology and movement disorders after seeing the impact the quality of compassionate care combined with cutting-edge pharmacology and technology could have on a patient’s condition. His goal is to work as a team with his patients to restore the quality of life they deserve.

A 3-time winner of the String of Pearls Neurology Teaching Award at Georgetown University Hospital, Dr. Falconer also was awarded the Mother of Pearls Top Resident Teacher Award and the Hugh H. Hussey Excellence in Education Award, both from Georgetown University Hospital. He is a member of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society and serves on the medical advisory board for PFNCA

A native of New Orleans, Dr. Falconer currently resides in Arlington with his wife, son, and daughter. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, spending time outdoor and LSU football.
