October 12th Meeting Announcement and Driving Resources

Looking forward to out upcoming in-person meeting. We have a guest speaker this month, who will talk to us for the first hour, followed by Just Us-Share Time.

Meeting Details:
        Date: Wednesday, October 12
        Time: 1:00-3:00 pm
        Speaker: Alec Langstein
Topic: Rock Steady boxing, exercise, and video workout site

Alec Langstein is a personal trainer who works exclusively with those with Parkinson’s disease. He owns and runs the Rock Steady Boxing locations in Tysons and Sterling, and also provides in-home personal training. In addition, he recently created a Virtual Parkinson’s Video Library (which is now a non-profit) categorized by levels, symptom specific workouts, and class length so that anyone can get a Parkinson’s specific workout in.

Please bring a mask with you to wear or not wear as you feel comfortable. For everyone’s safety, we ask that you not attend if you haven’t had two vaccines and at least one booster, are feeling ill, or have been exposed to anyone who is ill.

By agreement with our sponsoring organization, we do not publicly post our meeting place.

I received a request from someone looking for transportation services. One of our members did some research last year and found that options are specific to zip code and the reason for the requested ride. If you are not comfortable driving and looking for a ride to our meeting or somewhere else, two places to start (click on service name to link to its website): Fairfax County Services for Older Adults (offered by Fairfax County) and NV Rides (a voluntary organization). No experience with either, but if anyone does or has another resource, please let us know. Uber and Lyft, as well as local taxi services, are also options.

Dates and topics for meetings through June can be found here
